This Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer was painted in 1907 by Gustav Klimt. It is a masterpiece from Klimt’s golden period, and the second most expensive work by Klimt, selling for 135 million USD in 2006. The painting, measuring 140 x 140 centimeters, was commissioned by the sitter’s wealthy husband Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer. But it’s also quite likely that Adele had an affair with Gustav Klimt, who was known as a womanizer. Five years later he also painted this portrait of the same woman. #ArtHistory
