Macro Photography: Natural Light vs Artificial Lighting This bright yellow mushroom had incredible texture on the cap. I started with natural light, then used flexible LEDs to separate it from the background and the amaran Ace 25c to softly fill the shadows in front. Macro Mushroom Lighting with Two LEDs A lower shooting angle helped turn distant natural light into soft specular highlights through the trees, while two flexible LED lights were used to shape the mushroom stem and reveal the gills underneath. Quick behind-the-scenes look at how the image came together, ending with the final photograph. Lighting This Mushroom Macro Shot What really caught my attention here were the moss filaments gently wrapping around the mushroom cap. To bring that softness forward, I used two Adaptalux flexible LEDs to separate the subject from the background, and an amaran Ace 25c from the side to add a gentle glow before capturing the final image. Final photo: Symbiosis Settings: Canon R5 · 100mm · f/5 · 1/125s · ISO 200 · 40-image stack Gear used (link in bio): – Adaptalux Flexible LEDs – amaran Ace 25c #

Macro Photography with Flexible Lighting – Tiny Mushroom Setup This tiny mushroom caught my attention the moment I saw the curled stem. I placed a flexible LED to shape the light—and as I captured the stack, I used my arm to block part of the light and add shadow to the cap. The result? A moody image I call “Born from Shadow.” 📸 Shot with flexible LED lights 🔗 Gear & lights: Link in bio Let me know what you think—would you have lit it differently? #macro #macrophoto #mushroomphotography #light

Natural or Lit? (Macro) I found these two little helicopter seeds hanging in the forest and tried something simple: one shot using only natural light, and one shot with my flexible LED lights for backlighting. It’s always surprising how a small change in light can completely shift the mood of a macro scene. Which one feels better to you? 👇 If you want to check out the gear I’m using, the link is in my bio. #macro, #macrophotography, #backlighting, #forestmacro, #lightingsetup | Daniel Aucoin

Macro Flexible Lighting Setup – “One Last Breath” This image is called “One Last Breath”—a dandelion puff, photographed in the rain with a flexible lighting setup and an RGB light panel. There’s something about shooting in the rain that brings out the richness in every detail. The curved stem and missing seeds weren’t perfect—but that’s what made it feel honest. It reminded me of childhood, and how simple things used to feel magical. If you're into macro photography, maybe don’t wait for perfect

I left a sweet potato on my counter for about a month… and when it sprouted, I couldn’t resist taking it into the forest for a macro shoot. I took it into the forest and used two amaran Ace 25c lights to light the subject even in bright conditions. The extra power let me underexpose the background and make the sprout stand out, creating a clean, minimalist image. One of the leaves looked to me like the face of a duck — do you see it too? 🦆 15 focus-bracketed images later… this was the result.

Mushroom Skyline Made of Milk I played with water drop collision macro photography using the Miops Splash Kit to fine-tune the size of the drops, the delay between each drop, and the exact timing before the camera synchronizes and captures the collision. To freeze the motion, I used two Adaptalux Xenon flashes set to their lowest power, which gives the fastest flash duration and allows the collision to be perfectly frozen. I used almond milk mixed with food coloring to create organic, mushroom-l

Love at first brush 💖✨#macrophotography Finding beauty in everyday objects is not always easy. Sometimes, all it takes is a shift in perspective, viewing things from a different angle. Natural vs Artificial Light — Macro Photography Lighting Test 🌱💡 This image is called Unfolding. It’s a tiny scene I photographed of two leaves, still held together by a seed, just emerging from the earth. I compared natural light vs flexible LED lighting to shape the final shot. It’s subtle — but the difference in mood is big. Which version do you like more? Want to learn more about the flexible lights I use? One Mushroom… Three Completely Different Looks 🍄✨ It always amazes me how much the background can change the entire feel of a macro shot. For this one tiny mushroom, I kept the lighting and composition the same… and only changed the aperture. The result? Three completely different moods — from soft and dreamy to sharp and detailed — all created by the way the bokeh reacts to the light. It’s a great reminder that even the smallest technical choices can completely shift the story you’re telling.

Macro Lighting Hack – Sunrise with a Fern To recreate the look of natural sunlight, I lit a dry fern from the left using a flexible LED light. The light added a warm, sunrise-like glow and soft bokeh in the background — bringing this tiny green ball of moss to life. Macro Bokeh Aperture Test ✨ I’ve always been fascinated by how a small change in aperture can completely transform the look and feel of a macro shot. For this test, I used my flexible LED lights and a bit of steel wool to create specular highlights behind a small yellow mushroom growing on the side of a fallen tree. Each aperture tells its own story — one soft and dreamy, one balanced, one crisp and detailed. Which one stands out to you the most? 👇 🎥 Canon R5 — RF 100mm Macro f/2.8 (70 stacked

Light Painting Forest Photography with the NEW amaran Peak Battery @amarancreators #amaranpartner This was created using the amaran Pano 60c and their new Peak Battery—painting the scene with light, one shot at a time. What stuck with me wasn’t just the final image—it was the feeling. One root. Two paths. Even when we grow in different directions, we often start from the same place. That’s The Journey. I found this mushroom growing on top of carpet moss, and I knew I had to photograph it. To make the background interesting, I added steel wool for some beautiful out-of-focus highlights. Then I lit the mushroom with two amaran Ace 25c lights before the sun came up. Using the grid attachment on the first Ace 25c was key — it let me focus light only on the mushroom without spilling onto the background. That gave me a darker, moodier backdrop and made the mushroom stand out perfectly. These little

Would you climb a tree for this one photo? I found this mushroom growing on the side of a tree, and I wanted to capture it using focus stacking. The challenge? Keeping my camera steady while standing on a ladder. I wedged the tripod between the tree and the ladder, used a bungee to mount my flexible LED lights (link in bio), and shaped the light to create separation. After 40 stacked shots, this was the result — was it worth it? #macrophotography #mushroomphotography #focusstacking #behindthesce

Sunset in a Bowl I’ve always been fascinated by water drop collision images, but for this one I wanted to approach the idea a little differently. This image was created indoors using a macro setup, carefully timing water drops so they collide at just the right moment. The motion is frozen with a fast Adaptalux Xenon flash, not shutter speed. To keep things precise and repeatable, I used the Miops Splash system to control drop size, delay, and the number of drops, all triggered automatically thro
