On Monday, Vice President JD Vance met with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, where he gifted the Chicago-born pope a custom Bears jersey, according to CBS News. It included his name (Pope Leo) and number (naturally, XIV). “Good choice,” he told Vance when he received the jersey.
It’s just remarkable to see someone I know as the pope,” said the Rev. Joe Roccasalva, an Augustinian priest who grew up in Beverly on the South Side.
Vice President JD Vance officially invited Pope Leo XIV to the White House, following a “cordial” conversation between the two men on Monday at the Vatican. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also at the meeting, and Vance passed on a letter to the new pope from President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump.
