Gov. Philip D. Murphy said the transit agency was eager to reach a deal with engineers whose walkout has caused disruptions for tens of thousands in the New York area. The union said NJ Transit walked away from talks.

New Jersey Transit officials and the union representing its rail engineers said that unscheduled talks Saturday in Newark went well enough that they planned to continue negotiations on Sunday in an effort to end a strike that’s shut down the commuter service for two days.
