New Jersey is under a state of emergency after a flash flood caused at least two deaths in Plainfield and damage across Union County.

A lightning strike at an outdoor archery range in Jackson Township, New Jersey, turned deadly on Wednesday evening, leaving one man dead and at least 13 others injured, local authorities confirmed. The Jackson Township Police Department said emergency calls began pouring in shortly after 7 p.

Simon Mariani was competing in an all-day Iron Man competition at Hamburg’s Ballyowen Golf Course on July 8, when a fast-moving storm swept through the area. He was struck by a bolt of lightning while he played the 15th hole, prompting the other golfers to spring into action.

One person died and 13 others were injured after being struck by lightning on Wednesday in New Jersey, Jackson Township Police Department said in a statement.

A tornado warning has been issued for parts of Ocean County in New Jersey until 11:30 p.m. Parts of Atlantic County were also originally included in the warning, but the warning has expired there. The National Weather Service said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located northeast of Atlantic City at 11:16 p.m.

Flash flood warnings were issued by the National Weather service Monday night as heavy storms rolled into the area. Flood warnings were issued for Morris, Warren, Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Hudson, Passaic, Middlesex, Somerset and Union Counties, according to the National Weather Service.
