Anthony Mackie caught backlash after downplaying the "America" aspect of his character, Captain America.

Brave New World, Anthony Mackie has shared some insights into how the movie sets the stage for Sam Wilson's story to continue in Avengers: Doomsday.

Mackie, who is taking over the role of Captain America from Chris Evans in the upcoming film, said that he doesn’t think the star-spangled superhero “represents” America.

The actor, who plays Sam Wilson/Captain America in the upcoming film "Captain America: Brave New World" film, took to Instagram on Tuesday with a statement he shared in a story about what the role means to him and expressing his appreciation for those who serve and have served the country.

Anthony Mackie is set to step into the shoes of Captain America in the upcoming franchise movie, Brave New World. In a conversation with a media portal, the actor shared that he will reprise the role of Sam Wilson while also taking up the iconic superhero shield.

The new movie sees Mackie reprise his role as Sam Wilson, who takes up the mantle of Captain America to face a new threat against the world. It comes out in theaters on Friday, Feb. 14.

Anthony Mackie was asked about the reshoots while speaking with Esquire. When responding, the actor pointed to how other notable blockbusters have been filmed in recent years: Every movie that Marvel has made,

There are two words that kept coming up during the shoot of this movie between Julius [Onah] and I … empathy and compassion,” Mackie told the channel of his close collaboration with the film’s director.
