Donald Trump and Xi Jinping have held their first call since the US and Chinese presidents last month met in South Korea and agreed a truce in the trade tariff war between the superpowers.
Chinese state media reported some of what was discussed in the phone call that took place on Monday, local time.
Trump told reporters Tuesday that in his call with Xi the previous day, he urged the Chinese leader to speed up purchases. “He more or less agreed,” Trump said, according to Reuters. U.S. Trad e Secretary Scott Bessent, who has led the American negotiating team, insisted Chinese purchases remain “ right on schedule.”
He said the conversation followed their "highly successful" meeting in South Korea on October 30 and that both sides had made significant progress in keeping recent agreements current and accurate.
Clues of their respective agendas lie in what each side has chosen to emphasise - and omit - in their public statements on the call between US President Donald Trump and Chinese supremo Xi Jinping, analysts tell CNA.
Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi says she has spoken with U.S. President Donald Trump right after he spoke with China, which was angered by her recent comments about Taiwan.
