Jan. 20, the Chapel Hill community gathered at a ceremony organized by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is about unity, the celebration of King’s accomplishments and continuing to dream of peace, said Lenoir-Rhyne University students.

In spite of the temperatures that were lower than usual, activities celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day continued on Monday.

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Greene County Chapter of the NAACP had a commemorative service at Best Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

"Never lose faith, never lose hope, but hope is not a strategy" was the big theme Monday during the Atlantic City NAACP's Martin Luther King Jr. observance.

The event featured a parade, a musical tribute, speakers and more.
