A fire hydrant on the corner of North Roxboro Street and Crutchfield could be seen shooting out water, causing police to shut down one lane of North Roxboro. Interstate 85 in Durham was shut down to one lane at an exit ramp due to a car crash amid the wet road conditions.

After a five-month closure due to Hurricane Helene, a 12-mile stretch of I-40 near the Tennessee border will reopen on Saturday.

Interstate 40 is set to open to traffic on Saturday for the first time since Hurricane Helene swelled the Pigeon River and scoured large swaths of eastbound lanes last September. N.C. Department of Transportation and contract crews have stabilized the remaining westbound lanes and prepared them to provide one lane of traffic in each direction.
