Ben Shelton, a 22-year-old Atlanta native, is through to his first career Australian Open semifinal after defeating Italy's Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (4) on Wednesday in Melbourne.

Jannik Sinner defeated Alex de Minaur to progress to the Australian Open semi-finals. He will be playing against Ben Shelton in the semis, who defeated Lorenzo Sonego in a thrilling quarter-final at Rod Laver Arena.

Since 1988, when the Australian Open moved to Melbourne Park, Shelton is just the second left-handed player to reach the semi-finals of both hard court grand slams, after the great Rafael Nadal.
