Officials said the private road in Kaanapali Golf Estates and Old Stuart Road has been opened for public use. Maui County said the brush fire was estimated at 90 acres and was “knocked down” just after 2 p.m.

At 12:22 p.m., county officials closed both lanes of the highway — between Puukolii Road and Lower Honoapiilani Highway near the old Sugar Cane warehouse. Motorists are asked to avoid the area to allow helicopters to draw water from the ocean for firefighting operations.
