Six Americans who had been detained in Venezuela in recent months were freed by the government of President Nicolás Maduro after he met Friday with a Trump administration official tasked with urging the authoritarian leader to take back deported migrants who have committed crimes in the United States.

Venezuela released six detained Americans on Friday as President Donald Trump’s envoy for special missions ended a visit that included talks on U.S. efforts to repatriate large numbers of people who fled the South American country in recent years.

This decision will have a horrific impact on more than 505,400 Venezuelans who currently hold protected status,” the legislators wrote.

Under Trump's instructions, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted raids in South Florida.
