A volcano near Alaska’s largest city is showing new signs of unrest, with experts saying the likelihood of an eruption at Mount Spurr in the next few weeks or months has increased.

A volcano in Alaska is ‘likely’ to erupt, according to experts. The Alaska Volcano Observatory said it has seen an increase in volcanic gas emissions from Mount Spurr during flyovers in the last week.

Researchers predict the most likely outcome of the unrest at Mt. Spurr is “one or more explosive events” that could last as long as a few hours and produce ash clouds carried for hundreds of miles.
