Protests over federal immigration enforcement efforts in Los Angeles entered their fifth day on Tuesday, as hundreds of U.S. Marines have been deployed to the city, along with 2,000 more National Guard troops acting in a federal capacity at President Trump’s direction.
A heavy military presence was seen in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning after unrest sparked by ICE raids in the L.A. area and ahead of what is expected to be a third day of protests.
Monday’s demonstrations were far less raucous, with thousands peacefully attending a rally at City Hall and hundreds protesting outside a federal complex that includes a detention center where some immigrants are being held following workplace raids across the city.
