The bombshell story of the college football season thus far dropped last weekend, with the Penn State Nittany Lions officially firing coach James Franklin after a 3-3 start, which featured three straight losses in the Big Ten.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have suffered through a brutal 2025 college football season thus far. After losing in overtime to the Oregon Ducks, the team has gone on to lose to both the UCLA Bruins and Northwestern Wildcats.

Entering the Oct. 11 slate, ESPN's matchup predictor gave Penn State a 61.5% chance of improving their all-time record to 11-6 in games played at Kinnick Stadium. However, the latest update now favors Iowa with a slight 51.9% likelihood of victory.
