Training underway, rumors are swirling around the league, and one former Houston Astros World Series champion is reportedly set to join the San Diego Padres. As the 2025 MLB season approaches, teams are finalizing their rosters while Spring Training gets underway in Arizona and Florida.

For much of the offseason, as the Padres' payroll teetered around the collective bargaining tax, external speculation centered around which players they might trade in order to stay below that number.

The San Diego Padres have made a signing that few saw coming. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on Monday that the Padres have agreed to a deal with free agent first baseman Yuli Gurriel.
