As part of President Trump's immigration crackdown, his administration is suing Chicago and Illinois over what are known as sanctuary laws.

The lawsuit accuses city, county, and state authorities of ‘minimally enforcing—and oftentimes affirmatively thwarting’ federal immigration law.

The Trump administration sued officials in Illinois, Chicago and Cook County on Thursday over policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement authorities, accusing them of obstructing its immigration crackdown.
