The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a significant recall affecting over 137,000 Kia vehicles due to a potential engine defect that could lead to fires.

Kia says that there was a "quality deviation" at the Kia Autoland Hwaseong plant that manufactured the oil rings. Over time, the piston ring can damage the cylinder wall. This can lead to excess oil consumption and either abnormal noise or a low oil pressure warning light.
