The company did not say when the Kingston Macy's would close, and a manager at the location said staff had not been given a closure date, but declined further comment.

The move is part of the department store chain’s plan to shutter 150 underperforming locations by the end of 2026.

Macy’s closed the Gateway store in 2017. It also closed stores in Moscow in 2016, Twin Falls in 2017, Lewiston in 2020 and Idaho Falls in 2021. Including the clearance store and the forthcoming Coeur d’Alene closure, that’s eight Macy’s closures in the state since 2010.

Four stores in Southern California, including one in Westminster and another in Downtown L.A., will close by March.

The closures are the latest in a cost-cutting campaign that has shuttered hundreds of locations in a bid to stave off online retailers and other rivals.
