An explosion caused by a gas leak has destroyed a building in Wilmington. Wilmington police responded to a gas leak on Tuesday, Aug. 19, after a vehicle turning on to New Centre Drive from Bob King Drive struck a gas line after driving off the road, Wilmington Police Department Public Information Officer Greg Willett said at a news conference.
Upon conclusion of the forensic origin and cause examination, the cause of the fire and subsequent explosions was determined to be a compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinder that was punctured by an adjacent control panel for a hydraulic lift, as a Sun Metro bus unintentionally fell off a hydraulic lift, the report stated.
