SEGA America and Europe executive Shuji Utsumi has revealed that the company has no plans to produce anymore mini consoles going forward, so those hoping for a mini version of the Saturn or Dreamcast are sadly out of luck.

In a recent interview, Sega’s CEO delivers bad news to fans of mini consoles and provides insight into the company’s plans and future direction.

Despite the success of its Genesis mini, SEGA officially confirms it has no plans to produce mini consoles based on the Saturn, Dreamcast or other systems.

Sega has ruled out making any more Mini consoles, dashing hopes for a Saturn or Dreamcast revival.

The Guardian then received further confirmation from Sega that the company is not currently planning any more retro-inspired miniature consoles. The last one to be released was the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis 2 in 2022, which featured the likes of Sonic CD and Streets of Rage 3.

A few years ago, retro Mini console fever invaded the entire gaming sphere, with Nintendo first exploiting the limited edition concept with the NES Mini and then the SNES, before Sega also jumped on the bandwagon with the Mega Drive Mini and Mega Drive Mini II.
