Wall Street limped to a downbeat end of the trading week on Friday as a sell-off in Big Tech stocks dragged the Dow Jones Industrial Index down by more than 500 points at one point during the session.

The Dow was lower by around 350 points, or 0.7%, in early-afternoon trading, the S&P 500 lost 1.2% and the Nasdaq Composite was down by 1.6% after a selloff in Big Tech stocks. Shares of Tesla ( TSLA) fell by around 4.5%, while Amazon ( AMZN ), Alphabet ( GOOG ), Microsoft ( MSFT )and Nvidia ( NVDA) were all lower by around 2%.

Wall Street’s holiday cheer ended abruptly today, with all three main benchmarks slumping in a broad-based sell-off affecting even tech and growth stocks that had driven markets higher through much of the shortened trading week.

Dow Jones futures will open Sunday evening, along with S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq futures, with the stock market set to wrap up 2024 and ring in the new year.The stock market rally saw sharp Friday losses to slash what had been strong weekly gains.

Small caps rose with the major indexes steady Thursday. Nvidia is at key levels. SoundHound, Rocket Lab and other heat stocks soared.
