A baby spider monkey that was seized during a traffic stop along a Central California highway earlier this week is now in the care of the Oakland Zoo. California Highway Patrol said the animal was discovered after Madera-area officers pulled over a Rolls Royce on northbound Highway 99.

The California Highway Patrol had one of its more bizarre traffic stops near the close of 2024 as officers in the Central Valley pulled over a Rolls Royce with a baby monkey in a onesie as a passenger.

The spider monkey, believed to be 1 month old, has since been taken to the Oakland Zoo, according to authorities

A one-month old spider monkey was seized from a driver after he was pulled over for allegedly speeding. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI and possession of an exotic animal. Video courtesy of the Oakland Zoo.

The driver was identified as 27-year-old Ali Mused Adel Mohamed who was also found to be under the influence whilst driving himself and his young monkey around

Police officers from the California Highway Patrol rescued a baby spider monkey found during a DUI arrest on 30 December 2024. The baby monkey is now recovering at Oakland Zoo where it is receiving "appropriate care".
