The California Highway Patrol is urging the public to avoid Highway 1, south of Swanton Road in Santa Cruz as the road had been closed Saturday due to a fatal crash. The CHP is currently investigating the crash, according to their social media post at around 6:18 a.m.
BRENTWOOD — Two people died late Wednesday night when two cars on state Highway 4 apparently collided head-on, the California Highway Patrol said. The crash closed down the eastbound lanes of the highway overnight for about seven hours. The lanes re-opened again about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the CHP.

A small plane landed on a Modesto-area freeway early Friday afternoon. California Highway Patrol says the plane landed on the eastbound side of the Highway 132 bypass, near Dakota Avenue and west of Modesto. Officers say the pilot was not injured. Exactly what prompted the pilot to land on the bypass is unknown at this point.
The pedestrian, identified as a 37-year-old woman from Sacramento, later died. The driver of the big-rig, a 54-year-old man from San Pablo, was not injured, said Officer Garrett Pumphrey, spokesperson for the CHP's Solano-area office.
